Mrs. Elizabeth Estelle Crawford Barton
A Time To Embrace: February 20. 1926
A Time To Weep: July 19. 1997
After a fulfilling and well-spent life, Mrs. Elizabeth Barton closed her eyes in slumber on early Saturday morning, July 19, 1997, and is now resting from the toils of her earthly existence. As a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin, her family as well as her friends realize that while she is no longer with us, her memory and spirit will live on forever.
Sis. Elizabeth was born February 20, 1~26 to lovin,.g parents Terri Lee Crawford Pritchett and the late Emory Crawford Jr. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. During the primitive years she moved to Kingston, Georgia, where she became a member of Queen's Chapel A.M.E. Church. Later she joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she worked very deligently, sang God's praises in the choir, and served as the choir's
chaplain.
Two lives were joined in holy matrimony when Sis. Elizabeth and the late James Grady Barton exchanged wedding vows on April 3, 1943. Together they were dedicated to and blessed by nine loving children born to this union. Their only son, Mr. Felton (Lil Grady) Barton , preceded his father in death.
Sis. Elizabeth worked as a private sitter for many years until her own mother became ill and needed her care. She was a loving and devoted daughter, and mother to her children and all the neighborhood children who gathered at her home daily. She extended her loving ways by also raising five grandchildren .
To stand in the afterglow of her life, still warmed by her memory are her loving mother, Terri Lee Pritchett, and eight daughters: Mrs. Terri (Ralph) Redding, Cartersville, GA; Louise (James) Wells, Cartersville, GA; Martha (J.D.) McConnell, Atlanta, GA; Betty (Thomas) James, Cartersville, GA; Grace Grimes, Gladys Barton, Marcia Barton, Kingston, GA; and Brenda Barton, Rome, GA; three sisters: Louise Thomas, Cleveland,OH; Chaterin Appleberry, Chattanooga, TN; Barbara Wolly, Detroit, Ml; one aunt: Inez Whitaker, Chattanooga, TN; three brothers-inlaw: Henry Barton, Joseph Barton and Rufus Appleberry; two sisters-inlaw: Bertha Barton and Frances Barton; thirty-two grandchildren; twentyfour great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a special goddaughter, Mrs. Wilma Pasley Heard; and a host of other friends and
relatives.
