Deacon James Climmie "Jack" Barber was born on October
23, 1917 to the late Rev. Walter Barber and Mrs. Dexie Carnella Lawrence Barber in Butts County, Georgia, in the Jackson area. During his childhood, the family moved to Henry County and took residence in the Locust Grove community. The family joined fellowship with the Unity Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Walker.
James attended the Unity Grove and Crumbley Chapel Schools. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to mankind. He became affectionately known as "Jack" and "Big Daddy" by his family and friends and "Deac" by some. On Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Henry Medical Center, the Lord saw fit to call another solider on home and he departed this life.
On July 29, 1939, James was united in Holy Matrimony to Annie Ruth Miller. To this blessed union, eight children were born, five sons and three daughters.
At a very early age, he was baptized at the Unity Grove Baptist Church in Locust Grove. The family has lived in Ola, Hampton and McDonough for many, many years. Around 1955, James and Annie Ruth joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church under Rev. H. M. Alexander's leadership. Since then, they have worked faithfully and actively at Mt. Olive until his health began to fail. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1989 under Rev. Hopie Strickland's leadership.
James has worked at Hoyne Industries, the Henry County Department of Transportation, Dobbs House and State Linen.
Though he was confined, he was an active member of the Moral Elevators Lodge. He opened the doors of his home for the lodge to meet and they have met there for many years. "Jack" loved talking with people, keeping up with the daily news and cars. He had a very sharp memory, often remembering back to the age of two years old.
Three sons preceded him in death: James Edward, Oather Robert and Henry Lewis. He leaves to cherish his precious memory: a devoted and loving wife of sixty-one years, Annie Ruth Miller Barber; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barber (Marie) of Rex, Georgia; Mr. and Mrs.

Willie Barber (Betty) of Jonesboro, Georgia; three daughters, Ms. Mary Helen Russell of Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Virginia Barber of McDonough, and Rev. and Mrs. Milton Reeves (Gloria) of Rex, Georgia. twenty-one grandchildren, of which four grew up in his home, Darryl, Shirley, Sharon, and Cedric; twenty-two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. John Bolton (Marie) and Mrs. Fannie Lois Jones, both of Atlanta, Georgia; two aunts, Mrs. Ada Cooper of Covington, Georgia and Mrs. Rosie Mae Barber of McDonough, Georgia; four brothers-in-law; friend and talking partner; Mr. Oddie Lee Miller of McDonough, Georgia; Rev, and Mrs. James Miller (Bessie) of McDonough, Georgia, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Miller of Griffin, Georgia, and Mr. Clifford Miller of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Ms. Otelia Shepherd of McDonough, Georgia, Mrs. Minnie Ruth Main of Decatur, Georgia, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shannon (Helen) of Atlanta, Georgia; The Crawford Family of Jackson, Georgia and The Barber Family of McDonough, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, ~~write this, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord Henceforth. " ~~Blessed indeed, "says the Spirit,
~~that they may rest from their labors, and their deeds follow them!" Revelation 14:13

"You have fought a goodfight, you have finished your course, you have kept the faith ... "
I know that you had gotten tired, for you told me. I know that you had grown weary, for you told me. I know that you finished with doctors, for you told me. I know that your soul was in order, for you told me. The years have come and gone but we were never alone.
Your heart will always fmd peace and comfort In the knowledge that you are never alone.
God's presence eased your spirit and gave you the rest you needed. He knew how you felt. He was ever aware of your circumstances
And was ready to be your strength, your grace and your peace. No circumstance could block His love. No grief was too hard for Him to bear.
No task was too difficult for Him to complete. When your feelings were simply too deep for words and
Nothing anyone did or said could provide you
With the relief you needed, God understood.
Sleep on honey, lie down and take your rest, I love you but God loved you best. Your Loving Wife, Annie Ruth
"I'll Fly Away"

Jack,
You've been a good father. I know you are in a better place now. Love, Helen
Daddy,
You loved me, you taught me, you showed me by example how to be a family man. The many talks we shared shall always be cherished and remembered!
Love, Walter
Daddy,
There's so many things I can thank you for, but. the most important thing is being my father all these years.
Love, Virginia
Daddy,
"Thank you for being a wonderful role model". You have been my role model.
Love, Willie
Daddy,
I'm your last child and I know I am a "daddy's girl". I know that you knew how much I loved you. You taught me so much about this life and about how to treat people. I miss you so much but I realize that you had to go, just like you told me that Wednesday night in the hospital.
Love, Glory Jean

He is not dead, who leaves us this great heritage of remembered joy... He still lives in our hearts, in the happiness we knew, in the dreams
we shared... He still breaths in the lingering fragrance windblown from their
favorite flower... He still smiles in moonlights silver and laughs in sunlight's sparkling
gold ... He still speaks in the echoes of words we've heard him say again and
agatn ... He still moves in the rhythm of waving grasses, in the dance of tossing
branches. He is not dead; his memory is warn in our hearts, comfort in our sorrow. He is not apart from us, but a part of us ... for love is eternal; and those
we love shall be with us throughout all eternity. This Heritage is rich with love, and has proven strong and big enough to
reach down from above.
,_ Helen, Walter, Virginia, Willie, and Gloria
You always told us to do things right. We appreciate the stern guidance you have given us, the encouragement to keep on going in spite of, and being the strong disciplinarian that we needed. You kept us on the right track and we love you for that.
