Born Irene Hutchins, March 30, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Hutchins and Rolene Hutchins. The family resided in the city ofStone Mountain, GA.
Irene remained in Stone Mountain through high school where she made history. She was one of the two Afro-Americans students to graduate from Stone Mountain High School in 1967. She was a member ofthe National Honors Society and graduated with honors. She then went on to attend DeKalb Community College. After graduation, she was employed by Bel/South where she practiced her skills with love and dedication for over thirty years.
She joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend WJ. Cason.
She leaves tod cherish her memory, two children, Dr. and Mrs Tyrone (Maria Bailey) Benson and Mr. Arthur (AI) Bailey, Jr.; granddaughter, Bailey Simone Benson; parents, Deacon and Mrs. Henry (Rolene) Shoemake; three sisters and one brother, Ms. Beverly Dukes, Ms. Denise Glenn, Ms. Deborah Benton and Mr. Barry Hutchins; one uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Sadie) Woods; one aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Mary) Collins; three step sisters and two step brothers, Elder and Mrs. Mascerlin (Paula) Hines, Ms. Patrica Thomas, Ms. Clara Denise Shoemake, Mr. Larry Shoemake and Mr. Johnny Shoemake; a host ofnieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
