894 Constitution Road Atlanta, Georgia 30315 Dr. Monte Norwood, Pastor Apostle Matthew Norwood, Officiating
Elder David Atkins was born April 22, 1919 to the late Viola and the late Rev. John George Atkins in Griffm, Georgia. On Palm Sunday March 24, 2013 he made his transition to be with his Lord and Savior. He is survived by a caring wife Mother Beatrice Atkins of twenty years.
He grew up in Griffin and Hampton Georgia with his brothers Leroy Atkins, Wilbur Atkins and James Atkins and two sisters Gladys Bailey and Ruby Mae White. When his mother died he went to stay with an aunt until the family was reunited in Griffm, Georgia years later.
Before moving to Atlanta he lived in a small community called Plunkett Town. He was a businessman who owned a barbershop and occasionally repaired cars. He was a member of Traveler's Rest Baptist church where he attended regularly with his late wife of forty-eight years, Marie Magnolia Prothro Atkins and family.
After serving his country as a World War II veteran he moved to the Thomasville community in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked for Delta Airlines as a mechanic and later was a supervisor for the Postal Service and CDC for thirty-seven years before retiring.
Always a faithful church member he was the chairman of the deacon board at "Travelers Rest Baptist Church", a bible study teacher at "The Move of God Holiness Church", a Sunday school teacher at "Timothy Pure Holiness Church". While working as a faithful church member he answered "the call to preach". He served faithfully as the pastor of "The Mission of Love" church in Atlanta for many years. Even in his 90's you could find him preaching a sermon once a month at "Lighthouse Missionary Church" and teaching an occasional bible study class at "Bible Way Ministries". He was devoted to teaching and telling people about Christ. He lived his life talking and singing about Jesus. At 93 years of age he could explain the bible fluently and was quick to tell you of the goodness of the Lord.
Anytime you saw Elder David Atkins he was moving! As he got older, he never complained when his legs were hurting, when he had difficulty standing, or could not move as swiftly as he had in the past. If asked if he needed help, he was quick to say, "No". He would take his time, get up slowly while quoting a scripture or singing a song. Before you knew it he '\vas on the move again, walking and talking about Jesus with a sweet smile on his face. He did not believe in staying still and would immediately tell you he was okay if he needed help. He never stopped moving, believing and encouraging others until he was called home to be with the Lord.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: a loving wife, Mrs. Beatrice Atkins; four children, Ms. Phyllis A. Sanders, Mr . Shelia Denise Jordan (Randy), Mrs. Cynthia Maria Atkins-Wood (Renaldo) and Elder Willie Frank Reid; two step-children, Ms. Alease Taylor and Mr. Stanley Taylor; six grandchildren, ten greatgrandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

These are the units to measure the JJJorth Ofa man as a man) regardless ofbirth. No~ what was his church) nor what was his creed? But had he befriended those reai!J in need? Was he ever reacfy) with word ofgood cheefj To bring back a smile) to banish a tear? Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say) But how ma'!Y were sorry when he passed awqy.
