Brenda Joyce Arrington departed this life on Saturday March 9th, 2013, when God dispatched his holy angel to summon his child home to rest from her earthly labors.
Born and raised a Jersey girl, Brenda \vas the daughter of the late Robert Lawrence Arrington and the late Dora Arrington-Dean, the late stepmother I<atherine Arrington and the late stepfather Jessie Dean.
A true artist at heart, Brenda designed and created many sculptures, paintings and stained glass ftxtures. As a passion of hers that she developed at an early age Brenda was able to display her many works in art shows in Manhattan, New York and Atlanta, Georgia.
Brenda graduated from Trenton Central High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Bennett College. She later received her Master's degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in Religious Education. Additionally, she received clinical training from the Georgia Association of Pastoral Counseling. Brenda also attended Georgia State University where she received both her Master in Education as well as an advanced degree, an Education Specialist in School Psychology.
Brenda was involved in many organizations and provided support as a researcher, educator, consultant, and director for many projects such as the: Private Industries Council at Emory University School of Public Health, Aid for Imprisoned Mothers, State of Georgia, School Psychology, Christian Action Board, Trinity Church, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Community House, Princeton Youth Center, Corcoran St. Community Programs, East Lake United Methodist Church and the Atlanta Board of Education.
Her professional memberships included Georgia Association of School Psychologists, National Association of Educators and the Professional Association of Educators.
Brenda loved teaching and was a motivator to her many students over the years. She taught for the District of Columbia Board of Education as well as the Atlanta Public Schools before becoming a school psychologist. She opened her heart and home to the many youth she mentored.
Dedicated to improving her community, Brenda was appointed by the Mayor of Atlanta to the Atlanta Tree Commission and was instrumental in securing thousands of trees from Trees Atlanta of the Historic West End. She also served as the coordinator of the Atlanta Project education programs for the Brown Village. Additionally, she served as chair person of the Beautiftcation and Tour of Homes Committees of the West End Neighborhood Association.
She leaves to mourn her precious memories: her brothers, Donald B. Arrington and William "Skipper" Gunn (Yvonne) of Baltimore, Maryland; sister-in-law, Jeanette K. Arrington; niece, Brittany D. Arrington of Willingboro, New Jersey; nephew, Sheldon 0. Marshall of North Carolina; cousins, Mary Thompson, Deidra Thompson, Andrea Thompson and Delores Stevenson; a host of other special cousins and extended family; godchildren, Davida Reed and Samuel Alsobrook among many others; special friends, mentees and her beloved, Buddy J. White.
