Deacon Sergeant W. C.. (Payne) Alexander was born August 8, 1943 in Russell County, Alabama. The son of the late Ossie Lee Golden Johnson and the late James Alexander. He was reared and educated in the Russell County, Alabama School System. He was a member of the Boys Scouts of American. He worked briefly as a youth at Shackelford's Drug Store at the age of 16. He wanted more out of life and decided to join the United States Army in 1963. During his first year of service, he obtained his high school diploma. From then on his professional career would sore. He received many awards and accomplishments during his military career. His awards and accommodations include, but were not limited to: Air Medial (Vietnam), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Recruit Badge (2 Gold Stars), Good Conduct Medal (OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Overseas Ribbon {3 OLC), Army Service Ribbon, NCO, PD (3) and Drill Sergeant. He served in the Vietnam Conflict and afterwards attained to become a Drill Sergeant and then became a recruiter for the United States Army. He loved his country and performed his duties with a tremendous amount of pride.
Sarge, as he was affectionately known, confessed to Christ at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fort Mitchell, Alabama in 1959. This led to what would be known as a caring and successful human being. Feeling a need to share his life, he became one with the former Ms. Mary Pierce Jones on April 21, 1984. This union spawned a 19-year relationship that was filled with love, friendship and loyalty. He was ordained as a deacon at Galilee Baptist Church in Tacoma, Washington.
His mother and his sister, Ernestine Williams, preceded him in
death.
To cherish his memory and to mourn his passing, other than his wife, he leaves one son , Master Sergeant Willy C. Alexander (Sharon) on Marino Valley, California; one daughter, Debra Jean Alexander of Phenix City, Alabama; three sisters, Lillie (Bobby) Spivey, Ann Golden and Leola Pamela Johnson, all of Phenix City, Alabama; three brothers, Herman (Patricia) Golden of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joe (Claudette) Johnson of Albany, Georgia and Reverend Willie James Johnson of Phenix City, Alabama; one aunt, Mrs. Louise Jackson of Phenix City, Alabama; mother and father-inlaw, Rudolph and Thelma Jones of Tacoma, Washington; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law all residing in Tacoma, Washington and Bridgeport, Connecticut; three grandchildren; a wonderful host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that stretch from coast to coast.
