Carlton Adams was the third of eight children born to the late Dorsey Adams and Elease Peterson Adams. Carlton' s parents and two brothers, Troy Lee Adams and Willie Dorsey Adams, preceded him in death. Carlton joined Holly Springs Baptist Church in Madison, Georgia at a very young age, where his membership remained all of his childhood and most of his adult years. Carlton graduated from Pearl High School, Class of 1964. Shortly after graduation, Carlton joined the United States Armed Forces where he served from 1964- 1968 and mastered cooking. Carlton received an honorable discharge and rightfully earned his Culinary Arts degree.
He united in holy matrimony to Ardean "Dee" Tookes on August 1, 1979, to this union one child was born, Karla J. "Pretty Gal" Adams. Adams loved and cherished his stepson, Eddie Neal Turner, Jr. and raised him from age 6 years old until he left the nest at adulthood.
He was a very proud grandfather. Trinity came along thirteen years ago and became the new apple of his eyes; the second grandchild, Genesis was born three years later. Adams made it very clear to "Dee" that "Gen-Gen" was HIS - she stole his heart. Those two granddaughters won PaPa over from the first day he laid eyes on them. Joy came everyday he saw his grandchildren.
Carlton was employed for more than forty-five years in the culinary industry. He was employed as a Chef with the Internal Revenue Service, Buford Hwy. He also worked as a chef for the Richard B. Russell Building, Life of Georgia, Ben Hill UMC (where he changed his membership from his home Church under the leadership ofRev. McCallister Hollins), Ridgeview Institute and Dunwoody UMC, {The Great Chef). He had a tremendous work ethic as he worked two to three jobs a day; and completed all assignments with excellence.
Carlton's greatest Joy came from cooking. He worked 7 days a week, 365 days a year and never took a vacation. Dee, Karla and the Girls would go on vacation, but Chef enjoyed blessing everyone with his Culinary Delights. Therefore, there was never a day off for him. When illnesses like gout took over his body, the Kitchen Crew stepped in under his leadership; Jacki McLoyd prepping the food and stirring the Pots, Reaunette Hill making the cole slaw, Annie Laura Stephens graduated to the cash box, Youlonda Robinson was running the food line, with Sandra McDonald and Kathy Brown completing orders, Earl Robinson and Buster doing the heavy lifting by bringing in all of the heavy boxes with more food. Linda Smallwood decorating the tables and the Hebrew Slave (Abram Green) was busy bossing and tasting everything that left the kitchen. Ben Crawford and Jake Curtis made sure that everything we needed was taken care of and Fellowship Hall was back in order. Chef had a servant's heart, which was exemplified more when he started the Meals on Wheel' s program. Jennifer Washington would pick up her delivery for Mrs. Catherine Moon, and Rev. Paul Easley and Lois Toney would make weekly delivers to Bishop & Mrs. Thomas and the rest of the Sick and the Shut in.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ardean, affectionately known as Dee; children: Karla J. Adams and Eddie Neal Turner, Jr. ; two granddaughters: Trinity and Genesis Colbert; three brothers: Percy Adams, Conyers, GA, Clement Adams, Atlanta, GA and Peterson "Pete" Adams (Suzzane), Lawrenceville, GA; mother-in-law, Ida Mae Tookes, Lithonia GA ; two aunts: Mary Ellen Adams and Regina Riden; one uncle, Charlie Hillman; three brother-in-laws: William Tookes (Crystal), Orlando, FL, Milton and Modis Tookes, Jacksonville FL; four sister-in-laws: Ilene Hall, Atlanta, GA , Bernice Sabb (Chris), Jacksonville, FL, Betty Jones (Bennie), Garden Valley, GA and Parthenia Johnson (Nate), Lithonia, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
How many hearts did Chef Carlton Adams touch??? He has gone from this earthly home, but he will never be forgotten!!!
Heaven has gained the Top Chef!!! We Love YOU!!!

~The Man I Knew~
The man I knew was strong and mighty He led with a gentle heart, the man I knew warmed the hearts of many
And saddened them when he had to depart. The man I knew loved to cook his mac & cheese, steak,
and chicken or shrimp fried rice, The man I knew loved to watch TV and asked me what I needed in life.
The man I knew had a gentle tongue and was sweet as the finest pie, The man I knew lifted me up now I know I can fly.
The man I knew called me Pretty Gal, now I know I'm beautiful too! This man has changed my life forever and now I can see it through.
As I try not to cry for the man I knew he made a stamp on many, The man I knew had a kind heart and never was without a pretty penny.
The man I knew will stay in my heart and now I will not cry, The man I knew was a fighter
And when I look up I can see him in the sky.
