Mr. James T. Abrams was born in Shellman , Georgia to the late Lonnie Abrams and Phoebe Majors Abrams Shead. The family later moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He received his early education in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from the Old Stanton High School in Jacksonville. After graduation ,he attended Morris Brown College in Atla nta ,Georgia on a football scholarship, where he earned the nickname "Abe" or "Big Abe." Th is term was frequently and affectionately used among the players at Morris Brown.
After receiving his B.S. degree from Morris Brown College, his fi rstteaching/coachingposition was at South Fulton High School in East Point, Georgia under the principalshipofthe late Frank McCiarin . He served as Head Basketball Coach and Assistant Football Coach. Mr. Abrams earned his Masters degree from New York University in New York City and received his Adm inistrative Certification from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Abrams married Blanche Woods in 1954 and to this union two sons were born, James Tyrone Abrams (Corky) and Wayne Cedric Abrams. They were married for forty-six years.
In the late 1960's, Mr. Abrams left the Fulton County Public School System to become Head Football Coach at his Alma Mater, Morris Brown College, where he coached for three years before returning to the Fulton County Public School System. There, he served as Teacher/ Coach, Assistant Principal at Russell High School and Principal of Woodland High School and Camp Creek Middle School, where he retired in 1989.
During his college and career years, Abrams received many awards, honors and achieved many accomplishments.Among them were College- Captain of Morris Brown College Football Team, reci pient of the William A. Fountain Linesman of the Year Award and Honorable Mention for All American. Career- Coached several State Football, Basketball and Baseball Championship Teams while at South Fulton High School, recipientofthe WSB Radio White Columns Outstanding Achievement in the World of Sports Scroll (1967), WAOK Radio Station Basketball Coach of the Year (1969), Coached the Georgia Interscholastic Association All Star Basketball Team during the years 1960, 1961 and 1966. Mr. Abrams also coached the Girls Basketball Sub Region Championship Team at Hapeville High School, 1974-75. He was the 1961 Coach of the Year for the Atlanta Quarterback Club and Georgia High School Association AAA Basketball finalist Head Coach in 1967. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame (Extra Point Club, Inc.), the Morris Brown College Athletic Hall of Fame and the SIAC Hall of Fame. As a testament to Mr. Abrams' coaching ability, several of his players went on to play professional football , basketball and baseball. Among them, Alfred Jenkins, Atlanta Falcons, Donald Adams, Atlanta Hawks, Charles Greer, Denver Broncos and John Milner, New York Mets.
Mr. Abrams' many interests included fishing, cooking and catering . He was active in several organizations: the Morris Brown College Athletic Foundation , where he served as Director; one of the Founders of the TAY Club, MBC-CAU Labor Day Football Classic Committee and the Extra Point Club, Inc. Additional memberships include Morris Brown College National Alumni Association, the Handy Park Community Club (President 1981) and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He was a member of Cascade United Methodist Church .

County Public School System and former Head Football Coach at Morris Brown College, succumbed April4, 2000 after a recurring illness. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife,

Cedric Abrams (Cheryl Lisa), Milledgeville, Georg ia; loving mother, Mrs. Phoebe Shead, Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin (Melverine) Mitchell and Ms. Minnie Burton, Jacksonville, Florida; granddaughters, Errica and Errin Abrams, Milledgeville, Georgia; aunts, Ms. Freddye Jones, Ms. Queen Barnett, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Pearly) Daniels, Shellman, Georgia, Mr. and Mrs. James (Rhetta) Brantley, Miami, Florida, and Ms. Louise Bussey, Chicago, Illinois; uncles, Mr. Louis Majors, Cuthbert, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Ms. Bernice Thomas, New York, New York, and Ms. Clara Sealey, Buffalo, New York; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
