Legends of the Dead-Ball Era Basbeall Card Database is a project of the Access and Outreach Unit of the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies at the University of Georgia. Development of the database grew out of a 2002 Russell Library exhibit of the baseball cards of Senator Richard B. Russell and related materials from several private and public collections. Albert Kilchesty, historian for the Baseball Reliquary, curated the exhibit and contributed ideas for the development of the database. The related essays about aspects of baseball lore and culture as well as Senator Russell’s lifelong fascination with the game have been adapted from the exhibit script developed by Mr. Kilchesty.

The baseball database will be a testament to Senator Russell’s enduring love for the game as well as an opportunity for Russell Library to share the rich information and artistry of the baseball cards with baseball fans everywhere.
