Description: Selections from the Records of the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation, 1924-1974 online collection consists of 207 black-and-white photographs, 45 annual reports, 26 issues of the Polio Chronicle newsletter published by patients of the Foundation, and 3 sponsored films, all held by the Roosevelt Warm Springs Vocational Rehabilitation Campus in Warm Springs, Georgia. Founded by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1927 as the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation, the Roosevelt Warm Springs Vocational Rehabilitation Campus these materials document the evolution of the Foundation from a health resort in the 1920s to a comprehensive rehabilitation center in the 1970s; they also demonstrate the influence of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the growth of the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation and its prominence in national polio research and treatment. Visual materials in the collection depict disabled patients, rehabilitative treatment and adaptive technologies for the disabled, fundraising events for polio research, facilities and services available to patients and guests at the Foundation, leisure activities at the Foundation, buildings on the Warm Springs campus, employees of the organization, and numerous photographs of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in residence at Warm Springs as a private citizen, as governor of New York, and as president of the United States.
