- Description:
- Abstract: In an interview with seven residents in the Dublinaire Nursing Home in July 1975, the group discusses details about their lives, families, and Dublin, Ga. Subjects discussed include recreation, courting their spouses, dances (including the "twistification"), vacations, and what they remember of going to school as children. They raised sixty-one children between the seven of them, and each discusses some of their family history, and what they recall of Dublin and other counties around Georgia. Synopsis: The ladies tell Thomas some details about their families and lives growing up, going into what they did for recreation at home. They discuss courting their spouses, honeymoons, and dances. | Dublinaire residents Haskins and Singleton talk about their families and they all joke that they took vacations when they were younger, but none they can remember. They share memories of the railroad and going to school as children, with a packed lunch pail with a biscuit. | The residents talk about the railroads in Dublin, especially the W&T, and how people would come to town just to watch the trains go by. They talk about memories of the Oconee River and old Blackshear's Ferry, and one resident recalls how her family moved to Dublin from Lexington, SC. | The residents talk about members of their families who were "long livers," those who lived to be close to, or longer than one-hundred years old. Many of the women talk about family members who came to Laurens County from Hancock County, and Annie Baggett recalls the death of her brother-in-law in a car crash. | The ladies talk about the many children they raised - 61 between the seven interviewed - and whether they worked or not after giving birth. Thomas comments on the quality of Dublinaire Nursing Home and closes by talking again about Mrs. Haskins' story about the "twistification" dance. One of the ladies talks about how she met her husband, but the tape is cut off.
