CARROLLTON, GEORGIA 30117
FROM THE OFFICE OF
THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
834-441 1
EXT. 526
TO THE CLASS OF 1977:
I would like to extend to each of you my welcome to West Georgia College. I hope you will soon
feel that this is your College. The administration, faculty, and facilities are important in providing
structure for the College, but it is you, the student that give it life and substance. It will be your in-
terest in the College, in all phases of college life, and the efforts you put forth to develop a better en-
vironment for yourselves and for your fellow students that will determine the destiny of this College.
You come to this College at a time when cries for student rights and student power are being
heard all over the country. The College is a place to question, to criticize, to become involved, and to
search for meaning. However, it should not be used as a sanctuary for expressing views that would
not be expressed outside of the institution.
When expressing your views on this campus there is a vehicle available to you THE
STUDENT GOVERNMENT. However, a student government is possible only if you, the student,
provide support and creative ideas. The primary function of a student government is to represent the
student and to help the student create a self-fulfilling environment and the success depends on you.
Your Student Government Association will present your opinions and views to the administration,
faculty, the local citizen, and the legislature.
Your education at WGC is not restricted to the classroom. It is up to each of you to put forth the
effort to become totally involved in this college environment and to realize that failure to do so only
limits your experiences because this total involvement will have real meaning in your socio-political
life after graduation.
Congratulations on your admission to WGC. On behalf of the entire Student Government
Association, I want to wish you a happy, enjoyable and productive four years at WGC. Take advan-
tage of this tremendous opportunity to get a college education and become involved in your College.
Respectfully yours,
Michele Shellem, President
Student Government Association

ALPHA TAU OMEGA

strong fraternity was needed composed of persons
"not losing their own personal identity, but gaining

with the same ideals in mind. The fraternity house is
located on Newnan Street.

it the first national fraternity on the campus of West
Georgia College. Since then the chapter has initiated
over one hundred men and has a present active
brotherhood of 60 men.
Kappa Sigma has received many honors in its
brief history. Some of these have been first place for
their homecoming float and first place in regards to
returning alumni for 1971, semifinalists in basketball,
Softball, and "Best Overall Fraternity 1970-1971."
The objectives of the fraternity are defined as "a
solid foundation built of the combination of real
friendship and loyalty, nurtured by cooperation and
understanding."
LAMBDA CHI ALPHA
Lambda Chi Alpha has one word that embodies
every facet of human character ... a word that rallies
all that is warm and worthwhile in mankind. That word
is fraternity that spirit of brotherhood.
The Lambda Chi Alpha chapter was founded spr-
ing quarter of 1971 by 42 active members. The
chapter house is located five miles north of the cam-

other, typifies the founding history and the ac-
complishments of Lambda Chi Alpha.

one of the first social clubs to be established at West
Georgia College. From the original 35 charter

The colony now has 56 active members.
The purpose of Pi Kappa Alpha is the establish-

CHI OMEGA
The Phi Kappa chapter of Chi Omega was install-
ed on the West Georgia College campus in the Spring
of 1971 and has approximately 50 active members.

development are that it is a group of friends at the
college level of intelligence; that such a group
stimulates abilities and principles upon which the
quality of a civilization depends; that such groups aid
in the preservation of the freedoms essential to the
development of the individual; but that such in-
dividuals are aware of the subjective values that
history proves wise.

nity, Delta Delta Delta in the school year 1970-1971.
