- Description:
- In this series of WSB newsfilm clips from March 21, 1972 in Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta Police Chief John F. Inman comments on his relationship with Fulton County District Attorney Lewis Slaton and on organized crime in the city of Atlanta.
The clip is divided into three segments, part one and two parts of b-roll. Part one begins with a shot of Atlanta Police Chief John F. Inman. The clips cut to a shot of Chief Inman and reporter Charles Harmon, and then back to a shot of Inman. From off camera, Harmon asks, "What kind of bearing is this going to have now, with you two having feelings toward one another, as you seem to have, as far as cooperation in the upcoming years ahead?" Inman responds, "As far as I'm concerned, every law enforcement agency has my complete cooperation. As far as Lewis Slaton and I personally are concerned, I think, as far as law enforcement is concerned, I think the city of Atlanta will benefit, because of the fact that no, there'll be no reason for any collusion between the Atlanta Police Department and the District Attorney's Office."
The second segment of the clip is b-roll, during which John F. Inman and reporter Charles Harmon appear to be having a conversation, but no audio is heard.
The third segment of the clip is b-roll, during which John F. Inman says, "We'll be concerned with any attempts by organized crime to make any inroads into this city. That'll be one of my major objectives is to keep organized crime out of the city of Atlanta." From off camera, Harmon asks, "What about organized crime now in Atlanta? Is it here?" Inman replies, "There's evidence that some exists in the city at this time." Harmon asks, "To what degree?" Inman says, "To a minor degree." The clips cut to a shot of Charles Harmon, then to a shot of John F. Inman, then to a shot of both men.
