- Description:
- In this series of WSB-TV newsfilm clips from between October 18 and 21, 1968, Atlanta Chamber of Commerce president Albert J. Bows speaks to the Atlanta Lions club in favor of the referenda on the November 5, 1968 Atlanta, Fulton County, and DeKalb County ballots to fund public transportation, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The first clip shows Bows speaking at a podium. He says, "If we vote for this system in November, they'll start work on it next year, and the first trains can run within five years, and that will not be too soon in terms of today's traffic congestion. I think that's the important point, is further delay just puts off the day that anything good can happen. The main reasons we need rapid transit in our area are quite obvious. I would like to have you picture the kind of city this will be if we can move our people. Rapid transit and bus lines can extend our growth to the entire metropolitan area. People for the first time will have a method of transportation which will be reliable and dependable. Many of you have tried to get to the airport, or some other place, and you're not sure whether you'll get there, and then after you get there, if you're like me, you're not sure that you can find a place to park."
The second and final clip shows two unidentified white men seated in the audience.
