- Description:
- In this series of WSB newsfilm clips from May 21, 1973, Peter Zack Geer and others comment on the Alday murder case as the suspects arrive at the Seminole County Courthouse to be charged.
The clip is divided into two segments, part one and b-roll. Part one begins with a shot of a blue and white bus turning a corner and driving toward the camera. Next, Peter Zack Geer is seen standing in front of a brick edifice. He says, "The Alday family have employed me to the State and the prosecution, there's no official action taken by anyone to appoint me, they simply employed me." Charles Harmon asks, "Is this a bit unusual?" Geer replies, "No sir, I've prosecuted a lot of cases, uh, where the family has requested a special prosecutor." Harmon then asks, "What will be your role now that you've heard the brief, preliminary hearing here?" Geer replies, "Oh, I couldn't comment on that at this time. I will collaborate with the District Attorney and we shall see."
The clips then cut to four unidentified white male policemen, standing in a row. Next, an unidentified white male appears in the foreground of the shot, with several unidentified white males standing behind him. He says, "I certainly believe they'll get a fair trial here, in Seminole County, I think we've got enough good citizens here that wants honest government and want them to have their rights, and I think they deserve their rights to have a fair trial, and I believe they will receive a fair trial here."
Reporter Charles Harmon is seen next, standing in front of the Seminole County Courthouse. He says, "This day was peaceful, as are so many of the hot and humid days in this farm belt region of Georgia. But farming was off today, because farmers were here, at the Seminole County Courthouse. From Donalsonville, Charles Harmon, WSB News."
The second segment of the clip is b-roll, during which during which suspect Wayne Carl Coleman exits a blue and white bus, with two unidentified white males on either side of him and a group of unidentified white male policemen looking on. Coleman is seen entering the courthouse door, and the camera turns back to the bus. Carl Isaacs is seen exiting the bus, with two unidentified white males on either side of him. A third unidentified white male says, "Hold, hold - just there now." Behind Carl, Billy Isaacs also exits the bus, smoking. An unidentified white male takes Billy by the arm, as the unidentified white male who previously spoke continues, "Hold it right - hold it, hold it."
Next, there is a shot of a crowd of onlookers, who stand a few yards away from the blue and white bus that the suspects arrive in. Another shot of a different crowd of onlookers, gathered next to vehicles parked on a roadside, appears next, followed by another shot of a crowd gathered in the doorway of a brick building. An unidentified woman can be heard saying, "...just their little faces, and then they..." from off camera. The clip then cuts to another crowd that has gathered in front of an open-sided pole building, where trailers are parked behind them.
The blue and white bus is shown turning a corner and driving toward the camera, followed by a beige car. A group of onlookers can be seen in the distance to the right. The bus stops, and an unidentified white male policeman approaches the bus door. The clips then cut to a group of three unidentified white policemen and a large group of onlookers in the background. The camera cuts back to the bus door, which is now open. Four unidentified white males dressed in suits stand around the open door. Billy Isaacs exits the bus in handcuffs, followed by an unidentified white male in a suit. Two of the men take Isaacs' elbows and all three climb the steps into the courthouse. From off camera, an unidentified male says, "Stop when you get inside the door."
The camera cuts back to the open bus door, where George Elder Dungee is seen exiting the bus in handcuffs, followed by an unidentified white male. From off camera, an unidentified male is heard saying, "Holler when you get in good and [unintelligible]..." Two unidentified white males stand outside the bus, and two of the men take Dungee's elbows as the three climb the steps and enter the courthouse.
The next shot shows a group of unidentified people gathered on a grassy area around some parked cars. The courthouse can be seen in the distance. Then the clips cut back to the blue and white bus and a blue car which is parked behind the bus in the driveway adjacent to the courthouse. Several unidentified white males in suits and white male policemen stand behind the bus. The front of the Seminole County Courthouse is then shown for several seconds.
