- Description:
- Sculpture by Pierrot Barra.
Pierrot Barra gathered discarded toys and dolls after Christmas and recycled them into repositories of the Iwa (Vodou spirits). His inspiration came directly from these spirits, and his work was a way of serving them. According to Barra, the dolls were difficult to work with because they were always changing their minds, and evolving from one spirit to another. Sometimes two or more spirits would fight it out during the creation of a sculpture. He called his sculptures "little altars."
