- Description:
- James Dickey was an avid hunter during his lifetime and often wrote of his love for the sport in such poems as "Springer Mountain." Although much of his writing is set in the South, Dickey's work covers a wide range of themes, many of which are not specifically southern.
Photograph of author James Dickey posing with a bow and arrow and a deer carcass. He wears a camouflage jacket and hat. The deer hangs from a tree, and he kneels to hold the antlers. He faces forward and smiles. A white building stands in the background.
In 1968 Dickey was named poet-in-residence and professor of English at the University of South Carolina, where he remained for the rest of his career. Dickey ranks, along with Conrad Aiken, as one of the two most important Georgia poets in the twentieth century. - Metadata URL:
