- Description:
- British actress Fanny Kemble's infamous entanglement with Georgia was immortalized in her book, Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation in 1838-1839 (1863).
This illustration of Fanny Kemble. She wears a white off-the-shoulder dress with voluminous sleeves, and her hair is swept up. An English actress, Kemble married Georgia planter Pierce Mease Butler and was upset to learn of the family's slave operations. She eventually published an account of her impressions of slavery, after divorcing Butler and losing custody of their two children. - Metadata URL:
