Image of the drawing St. Yacht Thelma, Bangor, Maine, June 12, 1935 (crayon and graphite on paper, 9 x 12 in.), created by Savannah, Georgia artist William O. Golding in 1935. The drawing depicts a large yacht surrounded by several smaller boats sailing off the coast of Maine. A lighthouse stands on the shore. His distinctive image of the sun partially hidden by a cloud, a recurring image in the artist's work, is included in this drawing.
Golding chronicled his travels through a series of maritime drawings that he created near the end of his life while a patient at the U.S. Marine Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Between 1932 and 1939 he executed around sixty drawings, created from his memories of the ships he sailed and the ports of call he visited around the globe. - Metadata URL:
