- Description:
- Andree Ruellan's mural Spring in Georgia, commissioned by the U.S. Treasury Department's Section of Fine Arts, was installed at the Lawrenceville post office in 1942. Today the mural is housed in the R. G. Stephens Federal Building in Athens.
Image of the mural Spring in Georgia, created by artist Andrée Ruellan in 1942. The painting depicts a family working on a farm. A woman holding an infant stands near a man who is drinking water. Two mules hitched to a plow stand at rest. A young boy stands near the woman, and two girls work in a flower garden. Several chickens and turkeys linger near the family. A house stands in the background. This work was installed at the Lawrenceville, Georgia post office in 1942. Today the mural is housed in the R. G. Stephens Federal Building in Athens, Georgia.
Ruellan, a New York native of French descent, was a prominent artist of the twentieth century. Although she worked primarily in New York and Europe during her long career, Ruellan's frequent trips to the South, including to Savannah, Georgia, provided her with rich source material. - Metadata URL:
