- Description:
- Encyclopedia article about Griswoldville, Georgia. Griswoldville, an industrial village on the Central of Georgia Railway in Jones County, produced cotton gins during the antebellum period and Confederate revolvers during the Civil War (1861-65). The village was destroyed during Union general William T. Sherman's march to the sea, and the only major infantry battle of that campaign was fought near its ruins.
