- Georgia governor Ernest Vandiver (front right) and his wife, Betty, helped dedicate the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad in 1962. The state purchased Stone Mountain in 1958 and created the Stone Mountain Memorial Association (SMMA) to administer the site.
