- Encyclopedia article about the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, or Superfund). Superfund allows the federal government to clean up toxic-waste sites and pursue those responsible for dumping toxic substances. Toxic-waste sites subject to Superfund are placed on the National Priority List (NPL), which in 2009 included fifteen sites in Georgia, as well as one proposed site.
