- John Washington Bowdoin graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with a doctor of medicine degree in 1852. The notebook contains notes from the following MCG professors: Louis A. Dugas - Principles and Practice of Surgery; Lewis D. Ford - Institutes and Practice of Medicine; George M. Newton - Anatomy; Alexander Means - Chemistry; Joseph A. Eve - Obstetrics and Disease of Women and Infants; Miller, H.V.M. - Physiology and Pathological Anatomy; and Ignatius P. Garvin - Materia Medica and Therapeutics. The schedule of lectures can be found on the front and back flyleaves. The notebook was given to the MCG library by Bowdoin's nephew Joe P. Bowdoin, M.D. in 1941.
