- Description:
- Please use the index to find authors and articles. This was the twentieth volume of the Southern Medical and Surgical Journal. The volume year ran from January 1861 to December 1861. The numbering of the issues went from Issue to 10 to Issue 12. The last issue (12) gives November-December 1861 as its publication date. Continued from 1860 volume, the conclusion of Dr. Joseph Jones' report "On the Tertiary Lime Formation of Georgia" presented at the Cotton Planters Convention of Georgia (Issue 1). Much of the 1861 volume is devoted to military medicine in preparation of the U.S. Civil War. The last page announces the closing of the Medical College of Georgia due to the fact that most of the professors were away serving in the war (includes who was serving where). Also on the last page the editors announced the suspension of the Southern Medical and Surgical Journal due to the war and the cost of paper.
