- This is a transcription of an audio-recorded interview of Dr. Katrine Rawls Hawkins conducted by Lynda Lee Carlisle and Claire Hicks as an independent study project during their fourth year as medical students at MCG on October 17, 1984.
Dr. Hawkins completed an internship in pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital in New York. In 1942 she began practicing medicine in Sylvania, GA with Dr. J.C. Cail (MCG, Class of 1907). She was chairman of the Screven County Board of Health from 1965 to 1987, and continued to work with the Screven County Health Department after retirement from her private practice.
In addition to memberships in national, state, and county medical societies, Dr. Hawkins was a charter Fellow of American Academy of Physicians and a Charter Diplomat of American Board Family of Physicians.
Dr. Hawkins passed away in 2004. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Superior Court Judge W. Colbert Hawkins, who passed away in 2003. She was survived by her son, daughter, son-inlaw, and two grandsons. - Metadata URL:
