Significance: Built in 1940 under the United States Housing Authority, DeSoto Homes is significant as the first federally funded public housing project in Rome, Georgia. Building Numbers B-1, B-2, B-3, and B-4 are the four examples of the Type B Plan Building in the DeSoto Homes housing project. The Type B Plan Building is a one-story, duplex with one-bedroom units.
