Significance: Built in 1939-1940 under the United States Housing Authority, DeSoto Homes is significant as the first federally funded public housing project in Rome, Georgia. Building Numbers A-1 through A-13 are the thirteen examples of the Type A Plan Building in the DeSoto Homes housing project. The Type A Plan Building is a one-story building with four, one-bedroom units.
