- The late William Elmo Tabb, creator of the African Art Collection stemming from his missionary work in the Belgian Congo and Liberia, sits amongst the collection. In the four divisions of the collection displayed on the second and fourth floors of Haygood Hall, there were representatives from the cultures of at least ten different tribes. This irreplaceable collection, once housed in Haygood Hall, had an appraised value of approximately one million dollars. The collection and Haygood Hall were destroyed by fire on August 3, 1968.
