- Sam Doss recalls his early life in Thomasville, Georgia, moving to Atlanta because of his father’s relocation for work, and starting to work at age 12. He recalls his time spent in the U.S. Navy during World War II, attending West Georgia College where he met his wife, and relocating to Rome, Georgia after graduation. He discusses how his interest in politics developed, his participation in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and his election to the Georgia Senate in 1968. Doss discusses his work as a senator, including serving on the Higher Education and Appropriations Committees, passing bills related to retirement benefits, and planning the establishment of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Doss further discusses his memories of events and people in the Senate, and he reflects on the highlights and regrets of his Senate career.

Sam Doss was born in Thomasville, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy in California during World War II, and attended West Georgia College on the GI Bill. Doss served first as National Director then International Director of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was elected to the Georgia Senate in 1968, where he served for ten years on various committees, including the Higher Education and Appropriations Committees. He was instrumental in establishing the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon, Georgia.
