Eva Galambos has served as mayor of Sandy Springs since 2005. She is a retired economist specializing in urban finance and labor economics. She has also served as an arbitrator resolving disputes between labor and management. Galambos has been deeply involved in the founding and development of Sandy Springs. She was president of Committee for Sandy Springs from 1975-2005, leading the effort to incorporate Sandy Springs. She is a co-founder and former secretary of Sandy Springs Revitalization and founder of Sandy Springs Clean and Beautiful. Ms. Galambos has a Ph. D. in economics from the Georgia State University, holds a masters degree in labor and industrial relation from the University of Illinois, and a bachelor in business administration from the University of Georgia.
Eva Galambos recalls growing up in Germany and Italy before coming to the University of Georgia due to her father's teaching assignment. She discusses her time in Athens and attending the university. Galambos discusses her journalism career covering the legislature. She recalls working at the wage stabilization board during the Korean War. Galambos recalls moving to St. Louis for her husband's medical career and working for the Machinists Union. Galambos recalls moving to Sandy Springs and discusses the origins of the city's move toward autonomy from Fulton County. She discusses Atlanta's attempt to annex Sandy Springs. Galambos explains the process of creating a city and the challenges involved. She mentions Cynthia McKinney, the Alliance of Rural Democrats, and the Referendum for independence.
