- The collection consists of one letter to the Governor of Alabama William Wyatt Bibb, regarding the apprehension and return of a "negro man slave, property of Theoderick Montfort of [the] County of Putnam." "I do hereby demand of your Excellency that the said Gideon Berry, may be apprehended and delivered up to James Whitfield and Lewis Hayward, or either of them, ... in order that he may undergo a further trial for the offence with which he has been found guilty." John Clark (1766-1832) was a major general in the Georgia militia, state representative, U.S. Indian agent, and governor of Georgia from 1819 to 1823.
