- Description:
- A notebook of Captain Henry H. Carlton from 1860-circa 1880s. The notebook begins in 1860 as L. C. Cooper's notebook while a student at Franklin College (University of Georgia, Athens) and contains several literary pieces copied by Cooper. In 1861, Captain H. H. Carlton used the book to record the list of soldiers who served in the Troup Artillery during the Civil War. After the war someone, probably Edwin D. Newton, Secretary of the Survivors Association of Confederate Veterans of Northeast Georgia, added place of residence, death dates, and other data to the list. The notebook contains a mixture of various notes and includes material on Carlton's Company.
Henry Hull Carlton (1834-1905) was a Confederate Captain in Georgia's Troup Artillery. Troup Artillery was originally attached to the 2nd Georgia Infantry; afterwards to Company A, Cobb's Brigade; and finally to Captain M. Stanley's Independent Company Georgia Artillery.
