- Description:
- Video recording titled "THE GAY AGENDA." The moving image begins with an FBI copyright warning, followed by a title screen that reads: "From the Report." The next title screen reads: " THE GAY AGENDA." The video opens with footage of a riot with fires burning in the background, and is followed by several press blurbs espousing the influence of the video "THE GAY AGENDA." One reads: USA Today: "THE GAY AGENDA is a slick 20-minute documentary-style piece offering doctors, scholars, and recovered gay men talking about the ills of gay life." There is a page that reads "For Orders and Information: 1-800-462-4700, footage from several gay pride parades, coverage of a narrator defaming gay news resources and gay rights organizations, followed by the title: "The Gay Agenda In Public Education." Conservative Christian talking heads (such as Dolores Ayling, the President of "Concerned Parents for Educational Accountability" are consulted as "the voice of reason" while they defame programs that provide HIV education or support services for LGBTQ+/gay children in schools, and distort homosexual behavior as lurid and predatory. The program also promotes conversion therapy, and interviews converted gay men as "successful" examples of conversion. End credit screen: "Produced by The Report Copyright © 1992." Followed by a screen that reads "You Decide." This is succeeded by a screen that reads "Authorized and paid for by No Special Rights Committee PAC P.O. Box 407 Wilsonville, Oregon 97070." Videotapes like these were produced by the charismatic Christian church called Springs of Life, based in Lancaster, California, whose ministers were Ty and Jeannette Beeson. The church's multimedia resource center was known as "The Report." They were originally distributed in states with anti-LGBTQ+/anti-gay rights initiatives (often for free in shopping center parking lots), and later advertised through conservative Christian outlets such as Pat Robertson's television show "The 700 Club."
