- Typescript label attached to print verso: "children rear, l to r -- Mrs. Harry Davis, 250 Moreland Ave., NE, Mrs. Louise Furman, Moultrie, Dick Aycock, Moultrie. Front, W.E. Aycock Sr., father, W.E. (Billy) Aycock Jr., Moultrie, Mrs. W.E. Aycock (deceased.) Mr. Aycock writes 'The picture of our family in the White Steamer was made in front of Trinity Church, South Pryor St., by the Atlanta Journal and printed in the Journal in fall of 1909. We were visiting your mother's aunt, Mrs. L.P. Grant, on Killian St. near Grant Park. I entered this car in the N.Y. Herald-Atlanta Journal dedicatory tour over the National Highway from N.Y. to Atlanta in Oct., 1909, and made a perfect score. My car being No. 7, meaning the seventh entry in that first long distance auto tour in the nation. We were living at Aycock, Fla. at the time, where I was president of the Aycock Lumber Co., manufacturing yellow pine lumber. Shortly after this picture was made, we moved back to Moultrie. Submitted by Mrs. Davis." Newspaper captions: "This car took part in Journal's 1909 National Highway Tour. W.E. Aycock's White Steamer completed nation's 1st long-distance auto tour." (date-stamped "Oct 26 1958") and "White Steamer in front of Trinity Church. In the front seat of this White Steamer automobile parked in front of Trinity CHurch on South Pryor St. are W.E. Aycock, W.E. (Billy) Aycock Jr. and Mrs. W.E. Aycock (deceased). In the back seat with their nurse (left to right) are babies who today are Mrs. Hamp Davis, 250 Moreland Ave., NE; Mrs. Louise Furman, Moultrie, and Dick Aycock, of Moultrie.
