- Printed on back: "Atlanta Rhythm Section." Caption: "Safety Council Presents Awards. The Georgia Safety Council Wednesday presented its highest award, the Silver Badge of Courage, to two teenagers and members of the Atlatna Rhythm Section, a rock band. Gordon L. B. Smith, Jr., 14, (right, with Gov. George Busbee), saved the life of 46-year old Dwayne Fox earlier this year, when he disconnected a hose running from a pick-up truck exhaust pipe into the camper where Fox was sleeping. Ralph heard, 15, (not pictured) rescued his mother and brother from their burning apartment on Feb. 15. The Atlanta Rhythm Section pulled a Norcross man from a burning truck on a Missouri interstate, saving his life and risking their own. The band will receive a special commendation from the council and the governor later int he year. At left, Steve Hammond (far left) and band members (left to right) J.
