- Newspaper caption attached to print verso: "David Hobson sits in the Chinese chestnut tree his father planted on his farm near Jasper, in 1920. Blight-resistant Hobson chestnuts, from this tree, grow in many states." The seedling was sent to Jasper in 1917, and the variety of blight-resistant chestnut became known as the "Hobson" in 1930, although it was not commercially available until around 1935.
