- Typed caption formerly attached to print verso: "In Balch Park, California, stands this huge twelve foot Sequoia Redwood which was sawed completely through but did not fall. Instead it grew together again to live as a normal tree. The Redwoods and their close Sierra relative the Big Tree are the largest and oldest examples of tree life in North America often reaching the age of 2,000."
