- Description:
- Print verso inscribed: "Oak tree that owns itself, Covington, Ga. Left to right: Mary Almand, Lucille Waters, Elizabeth Floyd. Covington, Georgia." Neither of the penciled descriptions of the tree being in Covington, Georgia, is contemporary with the title and the names. The "Tree that owns itself" is in Athens, Georgia, not in Covington; however, this photo does not closely resemble other photos of the Athens tree. The Athens tree is also known as the "Jackson Oak"; it fell in 1942 and has been replaced.
