- Segment one: Swearing-in for Savannah's new police chief, 0:00-5:01. Civic Magazine covers the swearing-in ceremony for Savannah's new police chief, Dan Flynn. After the swearing-in is performed, Mayor Floyd Adams, Jr. welcomes the new police chief and tells him that the city council stands behind him. Police chief Flynn gives his gratitude to the city of Savannah and pledges to protect and improve the community. Aldermen Tony Thomas and Courtney Flexon say that the promotion of a new chief will provide stability and much-needed changes to the police force. Segment two: Tipper Gore visits Savannah, 5:01-7:17. Tipper Gore, wife of Vice President Al Gore, visited Savannah, which required a large undertaking from city officials to facilitate the visit. Civic Magazine interviews city employees about preparing for the visit. In an interview with Gary Glemboski of the Savannah Police Department (SPD), he talks about the logistics of coordinating with the Secret Service for security during Gore's visit, and how the SPD secured the area for the Vice first lady. Segment three: United Way 2000 debut, 7:17-17:58. Civic Magazine covers the debut of United Way 2000 and Savannah's partnership with the organization. Carol Bell, the central services director for Savannah, thanks the city of Savannah for all of their participation and later reveals the United Way fundraising goal for 2000. Bob Bartolotta, the assistant city manager, talks about all the ways that Savannah has contributed to United Way over the years and how they are ramping up their contributions in donations and volunteering. United Way President Michael Williams thanks everyone who made United Way such a great success. City manager Michael Brown lauds the United Way as an organization for what they do for communities around the country, and talks about how much United Way participation in Savannah has matured. John Savvy from the Salvation Army praises charity participation in Savannah and talks about a soup kitchen he helped start that has grown over the years. Mayor Floyd Adams, Jr. thanks community leaders and city officials for all their support in making United Way a success.
