- Description:
- In part three of this three-part interview, Ken Steele describes the changes he saw at the Goodrum House after World War II. He describes living in "The Little House" and recalls in great detail the night his mother passed away. He explains joining the Marine Corps a second time and his service with a tank unit in the Korean War. He recalls his combat experiences in Korea, including an incident behind enemy lines when his tank became disabled and how he and his crew were rescued. He remembers the gardens at Goodrum House; the time he spent at Sea Island; and the phone system at the Goodrum House. He recalls his and his mother's leisure time activities and describes life in Atlanta before and after World War II. (Note: This series of interviews was conducted to document Mr. Steele's connection with the May Patterson Goodrum House in Atlanta, Georgia, in addition to documenting his military service in World War II and Korea. The bulk of this third interview pertains to his service in the Korean War. Please view part 1 to hear him discuss his connection with the Goodrum House in greater detail.
