- Description:
- In this interview, Farish Carter "Hap" Chandler and Ed Knauth describe their experiences in the 8th Air Force during World War II. After being assigned to the 2nd Air Force, Ed traveled to Kearney, Nebraska and Meridian, Mississippi, before flying to Prestwick, Scotland. There, he joined with the 8th Air Force in preparation for a major operation. Their bombing missions included Schweinfurt, Stuttgart, Ravensburg, Frankfurt and Bremen, Germany. Ed developed hepatitis and was evacuated to a military hospital in Cambridge, England. He sailed home and was assigned to a troop carrier command, which flew the C-47s that towed gliders. He remained in the reserves until 1949. Hap begins his story with a B-17 in Lough Neagh, Ireland. His missions included flying gasoline in jerry cans to keep the 3rd Army moving through Europe.
Hap Chandler and Ed Knauth were in the 8th U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe during World War II. - Metadata URL:
