- Description:
- In this interview, James Cook relates his experiences in the Army in Korea. He was drafted into the Army after being married only three months. His wife drove him to the courthouse in Murphy, Tennessee, where he caught a bus to Knoxville and then to Little Rock, Arkansas. After infantry training, he was sent to artillery school, where he learned to operate the 105mm Howitzer. He relates several experiences in Korea, including R&R in Seoul and Japan, as well as witnessing a foiled hijacking attempt. He attended a USO show at the "Bayonet Bowl." After his time was over, he returned to the U.S. on a troop ship to Seattle, then a bus back to Tennessee. He remained in the reserves for a time at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
