- Description:
- In this interview, Sidney Gall recalls his time as a counter-intelligence officer during World War II. He worked for his father in the family store, earned a degree in economics, and held a captain's commission in the reserves. He recalls bowling with friends when the news came that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. He describes his training; he was sent to Chicago for counter-intelligence school. His duties included investigation of sabotage, espionage, violations of AR 380-5, which regulated confidentiality and secrecy within the government. He attended meetings and investigated people who wanted to work in secure locations as well as internees who wanted to be released from Japanese relocation centers on the West Coast. He recalls a story of working to break up a strike at a ball bearing plant and expresses his feelings on the atomic bomb. After the war, he returned to school as a Donovan Scholar.
