- The collection contains 11 images documenting African-American education at varying levels from one-room schoolhouses for elementary level to collegiate. All are group photographs, primarily exterior scenes posed before educational buildings, or apparent graduation groups. Both the location and the individuals depicted are not identified for the majority of the photographs.
The collection includes photographs of members of the Maxey family, including Charles Lincoln Maxey, Sr., of Madison GA and Tina Beatrice Johnson Maxey of Covington GA. Also included is the Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at Fisk University (1925), the Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority (1945), Morgan County GA teachers (1910), the Clark University class of 1923, as well as other school and graduation images. The Clark University class of 1923 photograph was taken by Atlanta African-American photographer Paul Poole. - Metadata URL:
