Dorothy Foreman Cotton (1930- ) served as the Director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's (SCLC) Citizenship Education Program beginning in 1963. She was the highest ranking woman in SCLC during the height of the Civil Rights Movement and a member of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s inner circle at the organization. She left SCLC in 1972 but continued her work as a civil rights activist. - Local Identifier:
