The residence at the corner of Peachtree and Baker Streets in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, was built in the 1880s by David H. Dougherty, the owner of a dry goods store in the city. Designed by architect W. L. Stoddard, the residence was known as the "house of a thousand candles." In 1900, it became the headquarters of the Colonial Club and a year later the home of Dr. John R. Hopkins. The house was demolished in 1931. - Local Identifier:
