- View of the ruins of the dairy at Dungeness, the residence of Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene, on Cumberland Island, Georgia.
Nathanael Greene (1742-1786) was a military leader and politician from the colony of Rhode Island. In 1770, Greene was chosen to serve in the Rhode Island General Assembly and was re-elected in 1771, 1772 and 1775. During the Revolutionary War, Greene rose to the rank of major general of the Continental Army. In 1785, Greene moved to his estate on the Georgia coast. He died a year later of sunstroke. - Local Identifier:
