The Confederate States Steamer, Patrick Henry, was built in New York City in 1859 by William H. Webb for the Old Dominion Steam Ship Line. The ship was used to carry civilians and freight between Richmond, Virginia and New York City. On June 8, 1861, the ship was turned over to the Confederate Navy and commander John Randolph Tucker directed the ship to be converted into a gunboat and renamed Patrick Henry. - Local Identifier:
