The Tom Thumb Wedding was a popular tradition and form of entertainment in the late 19th and early 20th century. The wedding involved children dressing as brides and grooms for a mock ceremony commemorating the wedding of Charles Sherwood Stratton, who performed for P.T. Barnum under the stage name, General Tom Thumb, and fellow performer, Lavinia Warren. Stratton and Warren married in Manhattan, New York on February 10th, 1863 in a lavish ceremony paid for by P.T. Barnum. President Abraham Lincoln held a wedding reception for the little couple at the White House. - Local Identifier:
